ASSEMBLY: a collaborative book project
By Dia • Aug 20th, 2008 • Category: Lead StoryFrom her site:
Process:
- Drawings are made by Karen Gelardi and book prototypes are developed (each book consists of a single drawing repeated on each page)
- Drawing book concepts are selected and purchased by curator/collector/collaborator (you)
- Drawing books are manufactured one-at-a-time reflecting your selection
- Books are shipped to the exhibit space
- Books are assembled into a sculptural installation
- Photos of the installation are published on the assembly weblog
- Books are sent to collectors (you) upon the close of the exhibit
Goals:
- To manifest a colorful, towering stack of books made up of various drawings, reflecting your drawing selections
- To involve you as a collaborator and investor in the art making process
- To transform drawings into objects and environments
- To create work that reflects your interest in the assembly project
- To create a sustainable model for the financing of installation concepts
- To create a system that emulates an evolutionary process
- To realize the promise of on-demand manufacturing
Books are available only through September 27th.
Books are numbered as they arrive.
Books will be shipped to you on October 15th.
Your name will be included in a list of collaborators on the assembly weblog (or not, if you prefer).
